Adicts Show Review: October 22nd 2006/ Key Club in Hollywood/California/USA
I can recall the best Adicts show I have been to was when they played with U.k Subs, Osaka Popstars and Misfits. As soon as we got to the Key Club in Hollywood we scored some tickets and we headed inside straight to the merchandise area. I went and purchased an autographed poster which sadly I lost later on that night. So as we were looking around I bumped into my brother who was talking to Charlie Harper from the U.k Subs. So I go and take a picture with him and to my surprise guess who walks in through the door? The one and only legendary Marky Ramone. I could not believe my luck. I wasted no time and asked both Charlie and Marky for a picture. How lucky was that? So we were all done down there and headed to the top to get ready for the U.K Subs to begin their performance. To be honest it was the first time I saw them live and for an old band they sure have it in them still. They were fucking awesome. I was not a big fan but I enjoyed their performance. Next up was Osaka Popstar. I seriously thought they were gonna suck ass because the singer looked kind of preppy. They were cool. Their lineup included very well known members like Dez Cadena from Black Flag, Jerry Only from The Misfits and Marky from The Ramones. When they played their cover of Blitzkrieg Bop the crowd went wild. I wondered what was going through Markys head at that moment. I felt bad for the guy. Knowing that he was the only one left. In the end we all payed our respects and let him know that he was still the best. So up next where The Adicts. As usual everyone started pushing their way through the front to get the best possible view. So the lights dim out and the theme song from A Clockwork Orange begins to play and in the curtains an image of Alex the droog appears flashing. I can't describe the feeling. You have to be there to experience it. The curtains open up and the band members walk out onto the stage. Out came Kid, Pete, Dan, Mel and finally Scruff. Dan began to play Ode To Joy to which later the whole band joined him. So great seeing them in action.. As soon as the song came to end Monkey came out through the left stage and started the show with a huge VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!! The crowd went wild. You could see that everyone was having a blast. Some of the songs they played that night were, Ode To Joy, Viva La Revolution, Let's Go, Numbers, Tango, Go Genie Go, Cheese Tomato Man, Johnny Was A Soldier, Steamroller, How Sad, Mad Hatter, Bad Girl, Bad Boy (to which Jerry Only from the misfits came out and joined Monkey) Joker In The Pack, The Easy Way Out and many more classics. Of course the show could not be complete with another huge VIVA!!!! So as the band finished we hung out for a while and headed back downstairs. There I bumped into Pete who took me backstage. I was so happy to finally meet Mel. I had seen them play so many times but I had never had the chance to meet him. So there I was with The Adicts, unfortunately Monkey was not there at that time, So then Pete said they had to get going and he and I began walking back downstairs we walked right past the stage and he said if I wanted I could stay there. I could not believe it. I got to hang out with The Adicts and now he was giving me the opportunity to watch the Misfits onstage. Oh man oh man oh man. I must have been the happiest person there that night. Eventually though it all had to come to an end just as all good things do. So I meet Jerry Only, Robo and Dez Cadena and begin to leave the stage when I bump into guess who??????? MONKEY..... He was behind me the whole time. Awesome. Best night yet. Will never forget it. Hopefully you all get to experience the amazing act of the Adicts and enjoy it as much as I have all these years........ ~Charlie (Adictpunk04) |
